Early life and family. Galileo was born in Pisa (then part of the Duchy of Florence), Italy, on 15 February , the first of six children of Vincenzo Galilei, a lutenist, composer, and music theorist, and Giulia (née Ammannati), who had married in Galileo became an accomplished lutenist himself and would have learned early from his father a scepticism for established authority, the Alma mater: University of Pisa – (no degree). They were used into the seventeenth century, but they were superseded by more complicated sectors. In particular, Galileo expanded on and publicized the arrangement of scales in , and his form became known as the Italian style. A military compass is a compass that was issued to members of the military for them to use in the field. It isn't much different than a compass you can buy yourself. The sector, also known as a proportional, geometric, or military compass, was major calculating instrument from the end of the sixteenth century until modern times. While the basic instrument is well known, very few people have any idea of the origin of the device or of the variety of scales that may be found engraved on it.
